Next, turn with me to The New Testament and locate Matthew
seven. It’s in this chapter that God tells us that He loves us, but He loves us so much more than we can love our very own children. Then, scripture asks us how much more is God willing to give us than our Earthly parents? Why? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
In verses 7 through 12, Jesus teaches us how to ask, seek, and knock. Jesus wants us to realize that we must learn how to ask God for our desires. We need to approach God as a son or daughter that would approach their Earthly parents for their needs. Getting to know God takes trust, but it also takes concentration and follow-through. We must learn what God “The Father” wants for us. For example, if we pursue the things of God; such as, knowledge, long-suffering, wisdom, charity, and kindness then He will apply these things to our lives.
James 4:2-3 expands on what Jesus told us on the mountain, because he says, “Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.” Jesus expressed that like a child we need to learn how to ask God for our desires instead of seeking them on our own. Sometimes, seeking healing on our own wastes the money and energy we could have used for Kingdom of God.
We learn how to ask God by practicing. For example, in verses 9 and 10 of Matthew 7, Jesus gives us an example of a child who asks his parents for bread and fish. He asks for bread and fish, because theses are his basic needs. The parents agree to grant him his basic needs, but do not give him a snake, because this would kill him. Sometimes, our requests are not good for us and no matter how many times we request, seek, and knock, God will not grant them to us. -Because He is The Good Father. In learning the true nature of God, we will discover: His love, grace, and mercy. Once again, God desires us to be in good health; therefore, asking, seeking, and knocking, for healing is a reasonable request and it shall be granted.
Go ahead and read Matthew 7:11-12 and then write-out your prayer for healing in the space provided. Or explain a time God answered your request for healing.
Why is it ok to seek, ask, and knock for healing?
