MOTHERS DAY POEMS AND PROGRAM

 Poem 1:

I Said a Mother’s Prayer for You – Anonymous

“I said a Mother’s Day prayer for you

to thank the Lord above

for blessing me with a lifetime

of your tenderhearted love.

I thanked God for the caring

you’ve shown me through the years,

for the closeness we’ve enjoyed

in time of laughter and of tears.

And so, I thank you from the heart

for all you’ve done for me

and I bless the Lord for giving me

the best mother there could be!”

Poem 2

Crown of Gentle Light

Your hands have sown in quiet ground,

with prayers that rise, without a sound;

each tear you’ve shed, the Lord has kept,

each night you prayed while others slept.

The love you give reflects His own,

a seed of grace your life has grown;

and in your eyes, His mercy stays,

a crown of light for all your days.

Poem 3. Blessed Are You, Mother

Blessed are you who kneel to pray,

who guide my steps along God’s way;

blessed the heart that gives and mends,

that loves like Christ and never ends.

The Lord delights in all you do,

His gentle strength abides in you;

and on this day, I lift my voice—

to thank Him for my mother’s choice.

Poem 4. Hands of Prayer

Your hands have folded countless times,

to lift my name to God above;

your voice has sung His holy rhymes,

your life has shown His endless love.

And now I pray for you today,

that blessings fall like morning dew;

for every prayer you’ve sent my way,

may Heaven’s joy return to you.

5. Wonderful Mother – Pat O’Reilly

“God made a wonderful mother,

A mother who never grows old;

He made her smile of the sunshine.

And He molded her heart of pure gold;

In her eyes He placed bright shining stars,

In her cheeks fair roses you see;

God made a wonderful mother,

And He gave that dear mother to me.”

Why Do We Honor Mothers on Mother’s Day?

Mother’s Day is a special occasion to celebrate and appreciate the invaluable role of mothers, recognizing their sacrifices, love, and nurturing. It reminds us of the diverse experiences of motherhood, embodying both challenges and triumphs.

Honoring mothers should extend beyond just one day. The stories of biblical mothers like Sarah, Hagar, and Jochebed reflect qualities of patience, resilience, bravery, and unwavering faith that deserve our admiration year-round.

As we celebrate Mother’s Day, let’s commit to appreciating them every day, acknowledging their enduring influence and love.

Inspiring Mothers from the Bible: 5 Real Stories for Mother’s Day And 5 Religiously inspired poems….

1. Sarah: The Mother Who Waited (Genesis 11–21)

Sarah’s story starts with heartbreak: she couldn’t have children. She and her husband, Abraham, waited decades for a child, clinging to a promise from God that must have felt impossible. At one point, Sarah even laughed at the idea she’d ever become a mother.

But God didn’t forget Sarah. When she finally held her son Isaac in her arms, her laughter turned to pure joy. Sarah’s story reminds us that waiting is hard, doubts are normal, and God’s timing often surprises us.

2. Hagar: The Mother Who Endured (Genesis 16, 21)

Hagar was a slave, forced into motherhood and treated as disposable. After giving birth to Abraham’s son Ishmael, she was cast out into the desert with her child, fearing they would die.

But God saw Hagar. He spoke to her, promised to care for her son, and provided water when all hope seemed lost. Hagar’s story is for anyone who’s felt unseen or abandoned, a strong theme for Mother’s Day. She survived, and her son thrived, because God never forgot her.

3. Rebekah: The Mother Who Believed (Genesis 24–27)

Rebekah left her home to marry Isaac, trusting God’s plan. When she was pregnant with twins, God told her the younger would become greater than the older—a shocking prophecy in her world.

Years later, Rebekah acted on this promise, helping Jacob receive his father’s blessing. Her story isn’t perfect—there’s deception and family drama—but Rebekah’s faith in God’s word shaped the course of history. It’s a reminder that God works through our choices, even when we stumble.

4. The Widow of Zarephath: The Mother Who Gave (1 Kings 17; Luke 4:25–26)

This single mom lived through a devastating famine, scraping together the last crumbs for herself and her son. Then the prophet Elijah showed up, asking her to share her meager meal. Despite her desperation, she gave what little she had—and God performed a miracle. Her food never ran out, and her son was restored to health.

Jesus himself praised her generosity. Her story is for every mom who gives sacrificially, trusting that kindness is never wasted.

5. Jochebed: The Mother with a Plan (Exodus 1–2)

When Pharaoh ordered all Hebrew baby boys to be killed, Jochebed refused to give up. She hid her son for three months, then placed him in a waterproof basket in the Nile, trusting God would protect him.

Her courage paid off: Pharaoh’s own daughter rescued baby Moses, and Jochebed was hired to nurse her own son. Moses grew up to lead Israel out of slavery. Jochebed’s quick thinking and bravery show the fierce lengths mothers will go to for their children, something we all should remember on Mother’s Day.

Let me tell you a story this Mother’s Day that never gets old for me. Yes it’s from Kairos!

One hot summer day in Florida:

 A young boy decided to go for a swim in a pond near his home. His mom would always

tell him not to go to the pond without carefully looking around and making sure that she

knew that he was going into the water.

This particular day was a scorcher! The little boy was in a hurry to dive into the cool water,

he dashed out the back door, leaving behind shoes, his socks, and his shirt.

He ran until he was almost out of breath.

Without stopping he jumped and made quite a splash into the cool pond of water.

He swam and swam some more. Before you knew it, he was in the

middle of the pond, not realizing that an alligator had been stalking him and was headed right for him.

His mother was in the house gazing out the window. Her mouth dropped in horror as she

saw the alligator and realized the two were swimming toward each other. In stark terror, she

ran toward the waters edger, screaming to her son as loudly as she could.

Hearing hthe mother’s cries, the little boy became alarmed and did a flip and began to swim frantically toward his mother.

Splash after splash the gator came closer and closer.

 Just as he reached her, the alligator reached him.

From the dock, the mother grabbed her baby boy by the arms just as the alligator snatched his legs.

That began this incredible tug of war, back and forth, between the mother and the alligator.

 The alligator struggled and strained, but no way was the mother going to let go.

A farmer happened to drive by, his truck windows were rolled down, he heard the mothers screams, raced from his truck with a gun, loaded it, took aim, and shot and killed the alligator.

Remarkably, after weeks and weeks in the hospital, the little boy survived. His legs were extremely scarred and disfigured by the vicious attack of the alligator. But on his arms had deep gouges where his mother’s fingernails had dug into his flesh -in her effort to hang on to her son.

The newspaper reporter who interviewed the boy asked if he would show his scars.

The boy raised his pant legs.

And then with obvious pride, he said to the reporter, “But look at my arms!

I have great scars on my arms, too! I have them because my mom would never let me go!”

Brothers and Sisters, no matter where you go, no matter what you do, no matter what you’ve done, God will not let you go!!

You may not be able to see the scares on your arms and your legs, but

The love of God that Jesus brought to the world now comes to us.

 He will not let you go!
