What to do when you are in Life’s battles?

What to do when you are in a battle?

Living a Christian life is the best way to live, but it is not always an easy task. A lot of us face battles everyday and some battles can last decades. For example, some of us are in a financial crisis, some of us have problems in our marriages, some of us need God to raise our families, some of us have addiction, and a list of other problems are endless. The Bible tells us that god does not want us to be fearful and he does not want us to worry. God does not call us to be overwhelmed; instead, he wants us to lay all of our cares upon him. The story of Jehoshaphat in Second Chronicles 20 gives us a list of things to do while we are facing our battles.
Our problems and battles can make us feel hopeless and overwhelmed especially if we doubt out Lord. Sometimes, we decide that it is better to handle the issues ourselves, but this is the worst mistake we can make. Then, we question what are we going to do and how are we going to solve the problem. The first step in facing our battle is to seek the Lord. In Second Chronicles we read that Jehoshaphat sought the Lord by fasting and praying.
Step two in fighting our battles is knowing who we are praying too. Jehoshaphat in verses five through nine stood in the middle of his people and glorified God in prayer. Jehoshaphat gave the testimony of God’s character traits. I t is helpful for us to know God’s character, because it builds our faith. Hence, the important character traits of God to notate are as notated as follows: omnipotent, sovereign, eternal, loving, deliver, and not forgetful. Knowing and experiencing the character traits of God will naturally bring us into a place of trusting him more and more; which, leads us to peace and joy.
Verses 10 through 12 give us step three in the process of fighting our battles. In these three verses we realize that these armies were distant relatives of Israel. Judah was afraid of the armies, because they did not have the strength and numbers to defeat them. However, the people of Judea knew the answer to the problem was God. Therefore, the third step in fighting our battle is being humble. Being humble means that we realize our own weaknesses. We realize that we do not have all the answers, but we know the one that is our strength. Then, using the character trait of being humble,, we can ask the Lord to be our strength and to deliver us from all of our problems.
Step four in fighting a battle is believing God. Jehoshaphat believed in the eternal God. We see that this entire kingdom fell on their faces and worshiped the Almighty God. We believe God by trusting in his promises. God’s promises are facts. Christians get in trouble when we do not believe in the facts of God. We want to question everything and we ponder on their results have eternal value. In the promises of God we allow Satan to whisper to us. Some of Satan’s most famous whispers to us are as follows: God doesn’t care about you, God has forgotten you, or God wants you to do this alone. However, we learn from King Jehoshaphat that we are to stand still in the promises of God. God is bigger and mightier than we are and he is sovereign control. Believe that God will fight your Battle and He will provide a way for you when there is no way.
Step five in fighting a battle is trusting in the Lord with all your heart, soul, and mind. The enemies were closing in on them and their anthems encouraged the people to trust in the Lord. This wholeheartedly trust brought thanksgiving from their lips. As the men went out to fight in the battle, with their swords drawn, their horses moving at a canter, and their voices blending the enemy armies became confused. Since, the people of the kingdom, decided to obey God, He gave them the miracle of victory. It is amazing that all the people had to do was believe God, and watch for the salvation of the Lord. It took three days to collect the spoil from the three countries. For three days, the kingdom rejoiced in what God had done.
When we use these steps in fighting our battles God will always come through for us. God will re-ward us with more then what we need. When we are in a battle, we take our eyes off the Lord. Sometimes, we even doubt and this unbelief sets us apart from our joy and happiness. From the beginning of the Bible to the end of the Bible it asks us to trust in God Almighty. When we trust in God almighty miraculous miracles occur.
In step six we find that we should share our testimonies after God has brought us through the fire. The testimony for Jehoshaphat and his people could have shared how God made them victorious over their enemies. This occurrence is recorded in scripture to prove who God is and what God does for his children. As Christians, we are not guaranteed that life will be a bed of roses, but we are notified that we will have trials and persecutions. This account prepares us to do battle and explains that our testimonies should be promoted; not hidden.

I strongly believe that if we are in Christ we are part of the New Creation and part of a community where old social paradigms of hierarchies and caste or class systems have no place in ministry. (2 Cor. 5:17; Gal. 3:28) Currently, with the Holy Spirit I am writing my 12th Bible Study. I enjoy volunteering at Elk Valley Christian school, guest appearances, traveling to teach God's word, doing research, and learning new things.
