Why is the saying, “Once saved always Saved” misleading.

Giving complete control of your life to someone is hard. Giving God the reigns to my life and following Him has proven to be my decision in life. I was saved as a teenager, but I played church for awhile. It took almost dying for me to realize just how close I wanted to be to Christ. Through sickness God tore all my barriers of control and I began handing Him more of the reins. The article written by Morris, Weiglt A., stated the journey this way, “There are no pain-free sets of spiritual laws for instant success.” This journal reminds us that the journey in sanctification is the quest of each Christian. In addition, I find that many people, including myself, were expecting the jack-pot” when we received the Holy Ghost.( Morris, Weiglt A.). It took me almost five years to disprove this false doctrine. I was also taught “once saved always saved; “so, that made me lazy and believe that I had a “license to sin.” Finally, I allowed the Holy Spirit to add in some prayer, fasting, bible study, and regular church attendance. Thus, putting me on the right journey. I truly had no idea about the concept of “disciple after commitment” (Attig pg. 11). I did not know that being a disciple and being apart of the “Lords Army” meant that I actually had to let God take full control of my life. Afterall, I was taught I had a free ride to heaven after baptism. Understanding the role of a Christian is a big assignment, but only God made us complete when we accepted His son Jesus Christ. The journey to sanctification is only easy, because we have the best guide, Jesus Christ. I now understand, that even though I’ve been called to preach, I need a program like “MPP” to prepare me for what God has next.

I strongly believe that if we are in Christ we are part of the New Creation and part of a community where old social paradigms of hierarchies and caste or class systems have no place in ministry. (2 Cor. 5:17; Gal. 3:28) Currently, with the Holy Spirit I am writing my 12th Bible Study. I enjoy volunteering at Elk Valley Christian school, guest appearances, traveling to teach God's word, doing research, and learning new things.
