What does 2 Kings 2:23-24 tell us about bears? ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Let’s examine the word Bethel in scripture. (2 Kings 2:23)
After Elijah was called to heaven Elisha moved to Bethel. The meaning of the word Bethel is House of God. In the time era before Elisha, Bethel was a happening place for God’s children. In 2 kings 2 Elijah was caught up in a whirlwind. I wonder what this looked like? Was it a tornado tunnel? What do you think?____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Elijah’s servant Elisha wanted a spirit like Elijah’s. Have you ever wanted a relationship like someone else had with Jesus? Maybe this person was a member of your church or community. If so, who was it? And Why? ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I admit, I did! I didn’t want to take what Pastor Steve had, but I wanted to be close to Jesus too. To my surprise, God is not a respecter of persons. Romans 2:11. What He gives to one he gives to all. What type of relationship do you have with Christ Jesus? ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Do you want to be closer to Him? ___________________ If so, how can you achieve your goal? ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Let’s examine the word Bethel in scripture. (2 Kings 2:23) After Elijah was called to heaven Elisha moved to Bethel. The meaning of the word Bethel is House of God. In the time era before Elisha, Bethel was a happening place for God’s children. The town was known for their Christian school. Many families sent their young lads to become preachers. According to Hosea 4:15, 5:8 and 10:5, Hosea called Bethel Bethaven. The importance of knowing the name change is simply that Hosea came after Elisha and even he called the people wicked.
In this time of our history, people were so wicked that they sent their young lads to keep Elisha from entering Bethel. The phrase, young lad, did not mean child like it does today. In King James’s time, a young lad was a man around twenty. Just like today, an eighteen-year-old, can become a member of the United States Military. Our young soldiers would have been the young lads spoke about in this scripture. Bethel was truly a house of wickedness. The people were idolatries, liars, murders, and thieves who were far from God.
When Elisha put a curse on the young lads this was not a wicked curse. It was not like a curse you would see on Sci-Fi. He simply meant you are a cursed people, because you know not what you do or where you will spend eternity.

Genesis 27:11 _________________________________________________________________________
These were two other times in scripture that attest to worldly foolishness. The citizens of Bethel did not have the hedge of protection that God provides. These men were following rulers and the prince of the world. They were influenced by Satan himself.
Once Elisha pointed out, that the men did not have protection from God. God decided to send the two bears. These bears were wild beasts from the forest and not an animated character in a kid’s movie. The bears provided a physical example of what was going on in the Spiritual world. With this action, God sent a clear message to the people of Bethel. What message was sent?
