In holy communion we receive Jesus Christ our Lord. In some places this is presented to the communist either on the tongue or in the hand. Today, because of Covid we are receiving The elements, wafer and juice, from a covered element package.
Now, God understands if you are missing church, because you were unable to attend because of sickness, disease, physical constraints, etc. So, do you want to participate in this part of the service, get yourself maybe something like a saltine cracker and a bit of juice. Pray over the elements and let’s begin.
Theologically speaking we do not take communion, but rather, re-receive this ultimate form of grace through Jesus Christ. We remember, and we are thankful for, the sacrifice that Jesus performed for each and everyone of us. He was born of a virgin, was crucified, was resurrected, and now is seated at the right hand of God. We receive not take communion in worship of Jesus Christ together.
First, I would like to introduce you to the following scripture: let’s read it together:
1 Corinthians 11:23-34
New International Version
23 For I received from the Lord(A) what I also passed on to you:(B) The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body,(C) which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant(D) in my blood;(E) do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.(F)
27 So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.(G) 28 Everyone ought to examine themselves(H) before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. 29 For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves. 30 That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.(I) 31 But if we were more discerning with regard to ourselves, we would not come under such judgment.(J) 32 Nevertheless, when we are judged in this way by the Lord, we are being disciplined(K) so that we will not be finally condemned with the world.(L)
33 So then, my brothers and sisters, when you gather to eat, you should all eat together. 34 Anyone who is hungry(M) should eat something at home,(N) so that when you meet together it may not result in judgment.
And when I come(O) I will give further directions.
The next thing that you do, is pray. Pray over your family, pray over your friends, and be thankful.
The third thing that we are going to do is participate in reflection. We are going to actually do what verse 28 says for us to do; and that, is to examine our own hearts. So, let’s have a moment that we ask the spirit to convict us of our sins and to forgive us of our sins.
Next, we are ready for the elements Of the Lord supper. Take your cracker a wafer in your hand and repeat these words, believing in faith: “Bored the spread is your body broken for me.” Now, break the bread and eat. Do this in the remembrance of What Jesus done for you.
Next, take the juice and say these words in agreements: “this juice represents the blood shed on the cross of Calvary for you and me. Now, do drink it entirely.
Finally, this concludes the Lords supper. Next, pray in thanksgiving to, our high priest, Jesus Christ.
