Why should Christians help the poor, needy, downtrodden, homeless, or God‘s children that need a help up?

Biblically speaking Jesus was an example of love. Because he loved thy neighbor as thy self; Because we love the poor; we help the poor, Needy, downtrodden, homeless.

The vision that God gave this church is called a church of missions. The Nazarene association globally heels to the needy, the downtrodden, the underdog, and to all God’s children that need a help up.

One place in scripture that you can find a command to help the needy is found in Matthew chapter six. This is the sermon Jesus gave on the mountain.

Therefore, in Matthew chapter 6, verse one, Jesus tells us that if we are to be his disciples he wants us to do certain things while we are living. The first thing, that he wants us to do, is live righteously. In other words, live as though you already are citizens of heaven. Continue his work here on earth.

My life‘s verse is the following: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”{Luke 4:18}

Therefore, we are to be motivated by the love of Jesus and not motivated by the love of self. We are not to preform good deeds in order to get noticed by everyone else. We are to do good deeds, because Jesus has done a good work yand because we have the love of Jesus that lives inside of us. We want everyone else to know Jesus Christ, because this is their ticket to heaven. We don’t want anyone to die and go to hell.

Another scripture, tells us that we are one of his because we love the brethren. You can find that in John 13:35. Furthermore, we do not sound trumpets and send alms before we are going to do something good. That was a cultural thing, back in the day Jesus walked the earth. (Matthew 6:2 and first Corinthians14:8) Today, we still sound our own trumpet or toot our own horn on social media and even on our résumé. Our culture insists that we tooth are own horn sometimes. But, we have to be very careful on social media. For example, if you look at my Facebook postings or you consider your own Facebook postings, don’t they all promote a pretty picture of our life. Then, we do this, in order, that the photo go viral or that we get 100 likes. Do you have any compromising photos for example? Do you have any post that record you doing wrong works? No! Probably not! We only record the good stuff or the stuff that we’re proud of on there. So, in essence we are boasting and sounding the trumpet. We are putting on our own show; so, people will like us. This really isn’t biblical, because it’s not motivated from a heart of love. It shows more of the love of self. Finally, scripture tells us to enjoy it, because you’re getting your reward now and you’re not laying up treasures in heaven. It’s a little bit sarcastic. Thus, Just take this advice, as a warning, or a caution, from me.

I’m still working on this post… What do you have to say???

I strongly believe that if we are in Christ we are part of the New Creation and part of a community where old social paradigms of hierarchies and caste or class systems have no place in ministry. (2 Cor. 5:17; Gal. 3:28) Currently, with the Holy Spirit I am writing my 12th Bible Study. I enjoy volunteering at Elk Valley Christian school, guest appearances, traveling to teach God's word, doing research, and learning new things.
