Seek after Heavenly things! – Easter 2025

For this lesson will be in Luke chapter 24.

Luke 24

Jesus Has Risen

24 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.

(Verses 1-3 Are covered more indebtly in the other gospels. Some give a little bit more “of a clue” to what the women were talking about on the way to Jesus is tomb. They were concerned about rolling the stone away and hoping that perhaps they would meet somebody, on the way, that could help them or the soldiers would still be there.)

4 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6 He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7 ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ”

Verse six, tells the women to remember what God had told them. Isn’t it hard to remember God‘s word in the time of trouble? Why is that? We are so concentrated on getting our checklist done that we forget everything else. Undoubtedly. These women had came to check off their list -anointing Jesus’s body because this was their custom. They were also not in the right state of mind. When we lose somebody we start that grieving process immediately and sometimes before hand. Their burial customs were their focus and to the horror something else happened. The body wasn’t there!

8 Then they remembered his words.

(I can also say that if I’m in the spirit when a problem arises, God‘s word is more readily in my thoughts, but if I do not do my morning devotion it doesn’t come as quick. Therefore, my advice is to be instant in season and out of season. We just need to be studied up all the time. Never missing a day of study.)

Never missing a day of worship. Never missing a day of prayer.

9 When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. 11 But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense.

(The women came back to the 11 disciples and others to give their report. The 12 disciples just dismissed this idea. Which is strange, because Jesus told them several times what was going to happen to him. For example, find the warning in Mark 9:30–32 (and also in Matthew 17:22–23) as follows: He said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise.” But they did not understand what he meant and were afraid to ask him about it. In fact, the description of Jesus predicting his death was repeated several times—in Mark 8:31, 9:31, and 10:32–34.)

12 Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.

Now, let’s see what happens On the Road to Emmaus:

13 Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. 15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; 16 but they were kept from recognizing him.

17 He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”

They stood still, their faces downcast. 18 One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”

19 “What things?” he asked.

“About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people.

Right here, we get a glimpse into what the society thought about Jesus. Just one week prior they called him a king, but now he was crucified and They called him a profit. They, just like us, allowed doubt and fear to become their concentration. Then, they (we) Put expectations on Jesus Christ, that aren’t written in scripture anywhere, and when they do not come to pass we become angry or upset. Two doctrines come to mind: “name it and claim it” or “the doctrine of “give and get”. When we participate in these things and they do not come to pass it causes hard feelings. – to say the least! But it also causes disaster and sometimes backsliding.

20 The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; 21 but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. 22 In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning 23 but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. 24 Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.”

25 He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken!

Here we see that Jesus gives them a wake up call. He calls them out on their end unbelief. And don’t you think that he doesn’t do this today? He calls us a full when we do not believe. In order to be a Christian we must turn from Our sin. Scripture tells us to go and sin no more.

26 Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

28 As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. 29 But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.

30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”

33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34 and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” 35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.

I can’t imagine the excitement that was present at this dinner table. To actually be taught the Scriptures by our chief priest Jesus Christ. Then the excitement to spread the word traveling all the way back to Jerusalem. What was the good news? -that Jesus Christ is alive.. when was the last time you had good news and you could not wait to share it?

Let me tell you a story! This happened to me in line at CVS. I was picking up my prescription and a couple other things. But I heard just a screeching yell behind me. I was very familiar with this yell, because I’m a mother of three.

Before, I get started with the story, I want you to picture the last time you saw an Easter basket in the store. Was it on the bottom shelf? The advertisers know to put it on the bottom so children can see it, want it, and ask for it!

Anyway back to the story!

I was in line, at CVS, picking up my prescription and a couple other things. But I heard just a screeching yell behind me. I was very familiar with this yell, because I’m a mother of three. So, I laid my stuff on the counter and turned around, just as the others did in line.

The scene is pictured like this (This is What I saw): there’s a mother carrying a baby girl on her hip and she has a child, about four or five, in the floor. The child, in the floor, had gotten down an Easter basket from the shelf. He was yelling: “I want this Easter basket.” The mother, also yelling, said: “you have to wait!” The Little boy Yelled, at the top of his lungs, back at his mother: “but I want this Easter basket now.” The Mother responded: “ It is almost Easter! You cannot have that basket! Put it back!” The Little boy continues in his tangent. Stopping his feet, yelling, kicking, and flopping like a fish in the floor.

But, I was not ready for what came next. It was a tug-of-war between mother, baby on her hip, and young child in the floor. She, at one point, said the following: “you may not have this blankety blank Easter basket! The Easter bunny will bring you one.” The young child put the basket on the floor, kicked the ball all the way through the cellophane, and The basketball tore through the shelves and products went everywhere. The boy then, yelled, “I want to eat the chocolate bunny!”

Now, we know that scripture tells us that we are to honor our father and our mother. We find this in Exodus 20, Ephesians 6:2, and Matthew 19:19. Mutual respect and love should be taught in the home (1 Peter 2:17). Scripture continues to tell us to use the rod when necessary. Proverbs 13:24: “He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.”

I’m not advocating beating your children, but I’m advocating teaching your children the ways of the Lord (Proverbs 22:6). Scripture tells us to train up a child in the direction they are supposed to go.

But my heart hurt for this young mother. I don’t know her circumstances. But I do know her generation wasn’t brought up in church. I know society continues to wax worse and worse especially in wickedness. The only thing I knew to do in this situation was to pray. And I was blessed! The Lord spoke to me! He said the following: “the world seeks after the fake, but the blessed are those who seek after me. For I am real!”

Folks, this little boy was freaking out about a toy. When was the last time your mind was distracted on getting a new car, an ATV, a new computer, or distracted with a new cell phone? We freak-out about those things.

We need to hunger and thirst after a relationship with Christ like we want those new things. Matthew 5:6 says “Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.” We need to freak-out about the awe-ha moments we have with the Lord. When was the last time you were studying the Word and God gave you a clear meaning of the truth?

This little boy was wearing down his mother about some fake grass and some fake Easter eggs. We wear out ourselves with obtaining the latest Apple Watch or the newest truck. We continue to waste our efforts on worldly things! But we need to put more focus on the eternal things.

Eternal things will not give out.

Eternal things will not wear out!

Eternal things were not burn up.

In the King James Version of the Bible Matthew 6 verses 19 & 20 reads as follows: “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth. and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor.

We not only need to remember, what Easter is all about, But we need to teach it to others.

We can teach this message one at a time, a group at a time, a Facebook post at a time, and in one TikTok video at a time.

I challenge you to share the Easter story this year, with someone, in some fashion.

The hearts of men and women are continually getting evil, but the world needs Jesus.

Then, Check out what Paul tells us in 2 Timothy 3:1-5 (New International Version) 3 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

This is where we are at this Easter! People fulfill there own agendas. They have no reverence for the things of God. They do what they want when they want. They replace the things of God with the things of the world. There is little sacrifice and there is little obedience to God. People are seeking after the fake things of the world.

I’m so thankful for the realness of Jesus Christ today! “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Psalm 119:103) Praise God! We don’t need a chocolate bunny.! Praise God, I don’t need a chocolate Easter egg! This Easter all we need is a dose of Jesus Christ.

Bless you if you received those things! But as for me and my household the word is sweet as honey: Psalm 119:104-106 (King James Version) “104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way. Did you get that? The psalmist said to hate the fake things of the world!

Arn’t you glad, in this house of God, that we have something real? We have excellent teachers, excellent pastors, fabulous members, and we all carry the Holy Ghost. I hate the fake! Can we all say that together? I hate the fake!

I hate the fake, so give me Jesus. To taste glory divine and return to our old selves; it’s like a dog who eats its own vomit. This is not my words, but the words of scripture. You’ll find this in the following: Proverbs 26:11As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly. Have you made a profession of faith and then return to your own foolishness? Have you given your heart to Jesus, but you aren’t living according to scripture? Are you backslidden? Have you repented, but returned to the old ways? Will Proverbs describes your situation like this: Proverbs 26:11As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly. Let’s not be fools today let’s be children of God! Ones who live the word in action and deed.

2 Corinthians 6:2 tells us that today is the day of salvation. “For he says, “In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” Today, is your day to get it right with God. You May come to the alter right now and we can finish the lesson in a minute!

Yes, the gospel is true and the Bible is true. Jesus came through a virgin. We celebrated Christmas it seems like yesterday! Today, we are celebrating that Jesus Christ was the innocent Lamb of God that was slain; so, that we could go free. He was crucified on the cross to bear our burden of sin. Without this, none of us would be able to obtain our inheritance.

Folks, there is more to the cross. I don’t know about you, but The resurrection of Jesus Christ gives me peace about death. Because Jesus had a body that died, but God raised him Aknew. This is our hope. This is our stay. This is what we’re counting on. It’s not fake! It is real and it’s going to be our experience whether we die or are called up in the rapture! Salvation is true.

The great thing about being a child of God is that there is Grace beyond the tomb. One Friday, we had a crucifixion and a sacrifice, but on that third and glorious day, God rolled that Stone Way, and Jesus arose. We should celebrate the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus every day, But even more so on Easter.

I have to admit, that Christmas has always been my favorite holiday, but as I age, and my family has entered adulthood, I enjoy Easter more and more. I find myself, watching God in action. I see God in action! He brings new life to the trees and flowers every year! He renews my mind daily!

While, we are on the subject, church membership is a must! There is a delusion out there that you don’t have to go to church, but according to the word and my study, I believe you do. I have a another blog post and we have done lessons that have given us more than 49 scriptural reasons for church attendance. Today, the Holy Ghost, wants me too reveal a couple scriptures pertaining to the joining together of Gods people -us!

So,here they are:

Acts 6:3 (ESV) “Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty.”

So, we see here that God has implemented the church. Therefore, he guides you to the appropriate church and places you into the church body. It is not by accident or chance, but of ordainment that you are in church today.

1 John 1:7 (ESV) “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”

Ephesians 4:16 “From whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.”

1 John 1:3-4 (ESV) “That which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.”

Today, if we can grasp that there is an empty tomb and that he rose; our hope in Jesus Christ is Secure. John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

I’m so thankful for life and life more abundant. I’m so glad that God makes everything a new. We’re not worshiping someone or some thing that is fake or made by man. We are worshipping the one true God!

When Jesus arose, the disciples had everything to celebrate, because everything Jesus said he was and everything Jesus is- it was true. there’s no holes in the story. It is true! True joy of salvation through our risen Lord, is our first spiritual gift. He hands that to us. It’s our job to except it and hold fast to it.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

When Jesus came out of the tomb and he gave us four things. These things were symbolized by the women who sought for Jesus. they had spent the night gathering the spices that they were going to use to anoint Jesus’s body.

We can only imagine what they went through, as they walked up that long dusty trail to the tomb of Jesus. They were confused. Perhaps, they were aching and hurting inside. Scripture, tells us that they came out of duty to prepare Jesus ‘ body. at the breaking of day they saw that that stone was rolled away. Now, I don’t know what you’ve come to the lesson with today, but I do know that God can roll back the trouble and send in the light.

Because the stone is rolled away we have an opportunity today. An opportunity to be joint heirs with Jesus Christ.

Matthew 11:28 tells us that Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will give rest for your souls.

Jesus says to you:

What holds you back? What burdens you down? What has a tight grip on your life? Is it drugs, alcohol, or the devil himself? Do you have a need? The answer for today is Jesus Christ. Hope, is your second spiritual gift today!

Is there anyone in here that does not need a little bit of joy, a little bit of rest and a little bit of hope? The world will not give you these things! These things are only given to us through the Holy Ghost.

We have a room full of hurting people today! God rolled that old stone away and whatever you’re searching for Jesus; He is the answer! All we have to do is look for our redemption because it draws near. do you need Jesus this morning? Today? This very hour? Let me help you meet him!

You might not find an empty grave very thrilling, but an empty tomb and a risen Savior it’s something to yell about! The door is open to you this morning. This hour. This minute. We, as a household of faith, are not offering you something fake. We are not offering you a chocolate bunny, but we are offering you the worlds greatest son, Jesus Christ.

Did your girlfriend or boyfriend break up with you? Did your spouse walk out on you? Are your children turning against you? Are your enemies in camped about you? I don’t know what you came to this lesson with, but Jesus has removed all the barriers between you and him. Now, The best thing that ever happened to you is Jesus Christ.

Matthew 6:33 (King James Version) “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

The women came to the tomb, the stone was rolled away, there was nobody. They were confused and saddened! then about verse four says the following:behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? …

Those women came with heavy hearts and burden down, but Jesus gave them joy, peace, hope, and rest for the weary minds. Hallelujah! They left rejoicing. This is what Easter Sunday could mean for all of us today.

Jesus is here this morning! Can you feel his sweet Holy Spirit? The Holy Ghost want you to know that if you’re not living right, if you are backslidden, or you have unconfessed sin; then, Jesus is seeking you this morning. He stands at your door and he knocks. Will you answer? How will you answer?

The last thing, that’s a spirit wants me to tell you about, is that in your Easter basket you will find a mission. Jesus leaves the tomb and the scripture says that he found two souls walking about 7 miles away. We see here that these men were brokenhearted, because they never crossed by the tomb. Their conversation was very depressing. They were at the end of the rope I’m barely hanging on. Praise God! Have you been there?

Matthew 18:20 (King James Version) “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”

He was in the mist and he’s in the mist this morning! These men were walking, 2 x 2, probably kicking the dirt kicking the rocks and here came Jesus. Picture of us! They’re just down and out. Worried! Beaten up! And here comes Jesus, ready to listen, and then then explain all about the situation. Haven’t you heard? Are you a foreigner? Have you not heard about this man named Was sent a die a Roman crucifixion. The worst death of all deaths? He was a miracle worker and proclaim to be the son of God. Where have you been?

My friend, if you’re burden down with trails and tribulations, Jesus is ready to listen. Matthew 4:17 (ESV) From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Christian, sometimes we are beaten down by the world so much, that we forget to look up! Matthew 6:8 states the following: (English Standard Version) “Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

At the end of the road, that means they walked at least two or 3 miles or so, their feet are dusty and they should be tired. It would’ve took them two or three hours. Just as Jesus was about to go and then They asked him the following: inverse 29: “
(English Standard Version) but they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent.” So he went in to stay with them.”

That word: constrain means to terry a while. Anyone in the house or reading this blog that wants Jesus to stay in a while? Well, it was dinner time and everyone was hungry; therefore, they came in to the house and sit down for dinner. According to scripture, when Jesus broke the bread and ate it he vanished from their presents.

Today, we do not have that physical sightings of Jesus Christ.

John 5:37 (King James Version) “37 And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.

Why? -because once Jesus Christ went home to be with the Lord, the word became all that we need. We won’t be going to heaven because we Had a physical encounter with Jesus, but we will call heaven our home because we have faith in Jesus Christ.

Today, we have to have the knowledge of the scriptures and most importantly we have to have faith in Jesus Christ. John 1:1 spells it out to us like this: (English Standard Version) “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Then, they said: “did our hearts not burn within us while he was here?“ Does our hearts not burn within us when we read the word of God? Let’s hunger and thirst after God.

So, in your Easter basket take the love of God with you, receive the joy that God has bestowed upon you, go in peace knowing that your sins have been forgiven, and lift your eyes up to God in the Hope up tomorrow. Finally, accept The mission set before you. Run the race and do not Terry until the rapture.

I strongly believe that if we are in Christ we are part of the New Creation and part of a community where old social paradigms of hierarchies and caste or class systems have no place in ministry. (2 Cor. 5:17; Gal. 3:28) Currently, with the Holy Spirit I am writing my 12th Bible Study. I enjoy volunteering at Elk Valley Christian school, guest appearances, traveling to teach God's word, doing research, and learning new things.
